Frequently Asked Questions
Should we livestream a funeral?
There are many advantages to live streaming a funeral or memorial service. It may be that you have friends and family spread out all over the world who are unable to attend or maybe you have someone who is vulnerable and would find attending the funeral service difficult. Furthermore, with concerns over large gatherings and taking long journeys, live streaming can make relieve a little anxiety over the attendees' safety.
Following the Coronavirus pandemic, the concept of live streaming a funeral service has now become normal, with many churches and funeral directors now offering our services as part of their arrangements. With affordable solutions now being available at the cost of one plane ticket you can now livestream a service to anywhere in the world. We always ensure we act completely professionally, discreetly and respectfully.
Is it strange to have a camera at the funeral service?
It may initially feel that having someone with a camera present at such a sensitive time will feel a little strange. However, we do everything we can to blend into the background and not intrude on the day whatsoever. We dress appropriately, stay out of the way and make sure that you are able to focus on the day at hand.
How much does it cost to stream a funeral?
Our prices start at £450.
While we ensure that our funeral Livestream services remain affordable each funeral service is different, as will be your requirements. For each funeral, we put together a quote for you based on what/how much you want us to capture. It is important to us that we understand exactly what you want, so please get in touch.
What if the Church or Crematorium already offers livestreaming?
The in-house systems installed in crematoria and churches often come with extremely low-quality video/sound or have the camera fixed in an awkward or unnatural position.
If you would rather use a professional funeral livestream you can let them know you would like a professional to come in and film for you.
You are more than welcome to talk to put us in touch with the venue if needed.
Do we need WiFi?
No, we don't need WiFi. We provide all of our own internet sources to ensure we know our streams are high quality and reliable. We use the mobile bonding service 'LiveU' to connect multiple data sources simultaneously. This allows us to stream from anywhere, whether it be a Church, Crematorium, Cemetery, or Burial ground.
Can we watch the stream at a later date?
We can leave the livestream online for a few months, longer if requested and then we will send you a download of the entire Service to keep for ever.
What do you need to do in advance?
You need to inform the funeral director that we are coming to film the service and ask them to contact us if they wish to do so.
You should also obtain consent from the venue hosting the funeral as without their permission we may not be able to livestream the funeral.
Advise the congregation in advance that the funeral will be live-streamed.
How much time is needed to set-up for the funeral live stream?
We are able to set up very quickly for funeral streaming. However, we would recommend an hour and a half to allow us to test camera positions and run checks on audio and uplink quality.
What do you need at the venue for funeral streaming?
We provide our own internet connection and can operate on battery power, but we prefer to have access to power and if there is a network connection, then access to that only makes our internet uploads stronger.
We need approximately 1.5 metres square for the funeral streaming equipment and operator.
Will you be discreet?
We always dress smartly and respectfully when attending a funeral. We do all we can to minimise our presence at the service and to ensure the funeral live stream goes smoothly.
What are the payment terms?
We require payment of 50% in advance to be made at the time of booking confirmation. This can be made by BACS. Then we invoice the remaining 50% balance after the funeral has taken place.
Upon booking confirmation, an invoice along with Terms and Conditions will be issued containing payment information for the funeral streaming service.
What platform do you stream to?
Our preferred streaming platform is Youtube, as it is the most reliable and widely available streaming platform on Earth. However, depending on our client’s requirements we can also use Zoom, Vimeo or Facebook.
Where do we watch the funeral livestream?
A link will be provided that will carry the funeral livestream. It is very simple to use. We send you a link to a distribute and on the day of the service, whoever wants to watch simply clicks on the link.
The same link will be used after the service to enable your friends and family to watch the service back if they weren’t able to do so live.
Can the funeral live stream be watched on a mobile phone?
Yes, any device that can access YouTube or the internet can be used to watch the funeral livestream.
How do we know the link is private?
The page containing the funeral live stream will not be indexed by search engines and the video will only be available if you know the unique, direct link. Upon your request, we can also password-protect the funeral streaming page, although we do not recommend this as a lot of people have difficulty entering passwords.
What is mobile bonding?
We use the latest technology (provided by LiveU) available to split the video image of the funeral streaming into packages and send it across any internet source available to us. This is the same service used by the BBC for their Live News Coverage. This includes Ethernet, WiFi, and all major mobile phone providers such as 02, EE, Vodafone, and Three. Then the signal is put back together in the Cloud and sent to Youtube where it can be watched live by anyone.
What if there is no mobile phone coverage?
We will check the venue through the service provider’s website in advance to make sure we bring the best connection available, however, we cannot guarantee 100% uplink time.
If, in the worst-case scenario, it is not possible to stream or the stream fails; we will have a backup recording on the camera which will be uploaded to the video player as soon as possible after the service.
